Stop Barking Dogs - It Starts With You!

Don't you find it irritating when a neighbor's dog barks excessively? Especially in the middle of the night!

To stop barking dogs from sending you crazy, try to work out what they're barking about ... What are they complaining about? Or what are they so darned happy about?

Or is it YOUR dogs or puppies barking that's causing this behavioral problem? Whatever side of the fence you're on, try to look at it from ALL angles:

THE POOR NEIGHBORS

As a neighbor of barking dogs, you're somewhat restricted as to the action you can take to prevent it. However, the starting point should always be to discuss the problem "calmly" with the owner of the dog and hope that they will take action. Unfortunately, things don't always work out the way you would like and it's possible that tempers may fray - So tread carefully and be mindful of the other people's feelings.

In some ways, it's a lot easier if it's YOU that needs to learn how to stop a dog barking. Yes YOU! Because your dog needs to understand that YOU are in charge of any bad behavior that may be going on. YOU must step up to the mark and teach Fido (or Fidella) "who" is in charge. It's all about Control, and if you've got a problem about being "controlling" - Get over it! Because if YOU don't control your dog, you can bet your life that your dog will soon be controlling YOU. Then you've got real problems.

It's important to LISTEN and UNDERSTAND what they are trying to say -

• "WHAT" is their problem?
• "WHY" are your dogs or puppies barking?

Are they:

• Lonely?
• Protective?
• Hungry or Thirsty?
• Too Confined? (Not enough space)
• Bored?
• Angry?
• Or just plain - Trying to cheese-you-off!

Ever heard of "DOGGY-TALK"?
Yes, they can talk ... Some more than others ... In there own way, they "talk".
It's up to YOU to listen and understand what they're saying. RESPECT their feelings and thoughts, and with the right training and dog obedience techniques, YOU can learn to CONTROL your dog into behaving exactly how you want them to behave.
